A Sponsor's Testimony
By Verna Smith, Elkhart, Indiana
Several years ago my husband and I became sponsors of two Haitian children through the ICDM Child Sponsorship Program. Thirty dollars a month provides food, clothing and education for one child, and helps the family as well. In our economy, $30 is hardly a drop in the bucket when buying groceries.
The next time you make your grocery list, take a good look in your food pantry, refrigerator and freezer. Be honest with yourself, and figure how many days you could eat without going to the store. Most of us could probably feed our families for several days from the food in our pantries and refrigerators.
Now consider the Haitian mother whose big concern is how to get enough rice to feed her family one meal a day. She does not need a grocery list. She has no food pantry or refrigerator. She knows she must sell something at the marketplace down the mountain trail in order to buy enough rice for today’s meal. Every day she faces the same dilemma. “What can I sell to feed my family today?”
Imagine the HOPE that comes to this mother when she is told that two of her 15 children now have a sponsor from the USA through ICDM! When we met Madame Alexandre, Elianise (10) and Washington (11), we needed no interpreter to understand this mother's hugs, smiles and tears as she thanked us for caring for her children.
We saw first-hand the difference that our drop in the bucket is making for one Haitian family.
For one dollar a day, $30 a month, you too can make a difference.
Please consider sponsoring a child today.
